ARTHROSIS
Arthrosis is a common disease of the postural and musculoskeletal system, referring to the wear and damage of a joint’s protective cartilage and sometimes the underlying bone. It primarily affects the hands, shoulder, knee, or hip joint. Chiropractic care can aid in healing and better quality of life.
CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a disorder of the wrist caused by an entrapment of the median nerve (nervus medianes). This nerve runs from the forearm, through the carpal tunnel, to the palm of the hand, and affects the movement and sensation of the hand. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) carpal tunnel syndrome.
DISC DEGENERATION
Disc degeneration is a condition whereby the spinal disks, the rubbery cushions between your vertebrae, wear down over time. The spinal disks function as shock absorbers and help you move, bend, and twist flexibly. Although disc generation is a normal part of ageing, in some people its process is more pronounced. This process is similar to the wearing and tearing seen in other joints, like hips and knees, and is considered a form of arthritis. Because the intervertebral discs wear out, less space between the vertebrae remains. The intervertebral discs become flatter and less flexible. When the vertebrae rub against each other, nerves can become irritated or compressed. This can cause pain and inflammation.
It’s not completely understood why the spinal discs begin to wear down. However, factors as heavy lifting, previous injuries of the spine, and family history may be involved. It’s also known that arthritis of the spine often increases with age. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) symptoms of disc generation.
FROZEN SHOULDER
The shoulder consists of the upper arm, shoulder blade and collarbone. The shoulder capsule, a thick and tight connective tissue, holds the joint together. Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, causes scar tissue formation and reduced synovial fluid, which restrict movement in the shoulder joint. As the shoulder becomes more painful, the use of the shoulder decreases, which results in a thicker shoulder capsule and a feeling of it to be “frozen” in place. This condition is characterised by gradual pain and stiffness. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) frozen shoulder.
HEADACHE AND MIGRAINE
Headache is a very common condition, which most people will experience many times during their lives. There are several types of headaches, with tension headaches being the most prevalent. The main symptom of a headache is pain in any region of the head or face. This pain may occur on one or both sides of the head, can be isolated to a certain location or radiates across the head from one point. Migraine is an intense headache often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. While most headaches aren’t dangerous, they affect your wellbeing. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) headache and migraine.
HERNIA
Neck pain and lower back pain are some of the most prevalent pain complaints. A cervical and lumbar hernia are problems of the primary spine that frequently lead to these pain complaints. Cervical and lumbar hernias can lead to decreased mobility, decreased quality of life, decreased productivity at work, anxiety and depression.
A cervical or lumbar hernia occurs when the intervertebral discs, situated between the vertebrae of the neck (the cervical spine) or lower back (the lumbar spine), are compressed. This compression can result from damage to, a tear in, or the displacement of an intervertebral disc. This causes pressure on the spinal cord and nerves, which can lead to pain radiating to the upper limbs (shoulder, arm, hand and fingers) or lower limbs (leg, ankle, foot and toes). Symptoms include sharp pain, tingling and numbness in the limbs. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) a hernia.
NECK PAIN
Neck pain is a common problem that affects many adults at some point in their lives. Various structures in the neck can be involved, including muscles, nerves, vertebraes, joints, and spinal discs. The pain may be confined to the neck and shoulders, or might radiate down the arm, hand and fingers. Pain complaints can vary from a dull ache to an electric shock. Symptoms, such as numbness or muscle weakness, can help pinpoint the cause of neck pain. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) neck pain.
PIRIFORMIS SYNDROME
Piriformis syndrome is a painful condition characterized by a stabbing pain in the hip or buttock. The pain is caused by the compression of a large nerve (sciatic nerve) by a deep gluteal muscle (piriformis muscle). The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back, via the buttock, to the leg. Symptoms include pain in the buttock, hip and groin, pressure pain in the center of the buttock, radiating pain down the back of the leg, and numbness and tingling down to the back of the knee. The pain worsens when sitting, moving or squatting for a long time, and decreases when lying on the back. Chiropractic care helps heal and prevent piriformis syndrome. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) piriformis syndrome.
SCOLIOSIS
Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. It often creates two curves in the shape of the letter S. Scoliosis also creates a rotation of the vertebrae, which distorts the rib cage.
The normal curves of the spine position the head above the pelvis and function as shock absorbers to distribute mechanical stress during movement. With (severe) scoliosis, the position of the back is not straight, the shoulders and shoulder blades are not positioned at equal height, and the waist is not equal on the left and right sight. This can cause symptoms such as back pain, movement restriction and fatigue. Chiropractic care can improve the angle of the abnormal curvature and prevent it from getting worse. This helps reduce symptoms and prevent new ones.
STENOSIS
There are two types of stenosis: lumbar stenosis and cervical stenosis. Lumbar stenosis is a degenerative condition, resulting in a narrowing of the lumbar spinal canal. This narrowing diminishes the space for the neural vascular elements in the lumbar spine, which causes symptoms such as radiating pain and numbness in the buttock, legs, feet.
Cervical stenosis is a narrowing of the cervical spinal canal. This narrowing results in compression of the spinal cord and the nerve roots, which affect its functioning. This causes symptoms such as numbness and tingling in the arms, hands and fingers. Chiropractic care helps to heal and prevent (recurrence of) stenosis.
WHIPLASH
Whiplash is an injury of the neck caused by a rapid back-and-forth movement. Whiplash is often the result from a car accident. Chiropractic care helps to heal from a whiplash.
